The classic notebook game, online
Golipop is a free online version of Paper Soccer, the pen-and-paper game generations of people have played in the margins of their notebooks. Our goal is simple: keep the exact feel of the paper game — the lines, the bounces, the little rush of a goal — while adding real opponents from around the world, a fair ranking, and a game you can start in one click, with no download and no account required.
What is Paper Soccer?
Paper Soccer (paper football) is a two-player abstract strategy game played on a grid of dots. Players alternate drawing line segments to move a ball toward the opponent’s goal, with a “bounce” rule that grants extra moves when the ball touches an already-used point. It’s easy to learn in a couple of minutes but has surprising tactical depth — the reason it has survived on paper for so long. If you’re new to it, start with our how-to-play guide.
Where it comes from
The game has been popular across Europe for decades, especially in Poland — where it’s widely known as papierowa piłka nożna — as well as in Hungary, the Balkans, and beyond. Because it needs nothing more than squared paper and a pen, it spread from classroom to classroom rather than through any single publisher, which is why you’ll find slightly different names and house rules everywhere it’s played. Golipop uses the common, well-balanced ruleset with a bounce-on-used-point mechanic and goals that keep the game going after a score.
What Golipop adds
- Real-time multiplayer. Play live against real people; create a public room, jump into a quick match, or invite a friend.
- ELO ranking. Ranked matches update a skill rating, so you’re matched with players around your level and can watch yourself improve.
- Country leagues. Represent your country, climb team standings, and take part in cross-country battles. Read more on the league page.
- Play the computer. Several difficulty levels let you learn and practise offline. Try it against the computer.
- Replays & shareable videos. Every match can be reviewed move by move and exported as a short video.
Fair play
Golipop is designed to be fair and friendly: ratings are computed server-side, matchmaking respects your skill band, and you can play completely as a guest if you prefer not to sign in.
