Golipop

Frequently asked questions

Everything people usually ask

Is Golipop free?

Yes — Golipop is completely free to play. The game is supported by ads, which is what lets us keep it open to everyone with no paywall and no “premium” gameplay.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play as a guest straight away, against the computer or real opponents. An account (a free sign-in with Google or an email link) only unlocks the extras: a permanent username, your ELO rating, country leagues, friends, and match history.

What is Paper Soccer, exactly?

It’s a two-player strategy game played on a grid of dots: you draw lines to move a ball toward your opponent’s goal, with a bounce rule that gives you extra moves off used points. The full rules are in the how-to-play guide, and there’s background on the game in About.

Is this the same as “dots and boxes”?

No — they’re often confused because both use a grid of dots. In dots and boxes you claim squares; in Paper Soccer you move a single ball toward a goal using the bounce rule. Different game, different tactics.

How does the ELO ranking work?

Every ranked match adjusts your rating: beat a stronger player and you gain more; lose to a weaker one and you drop more. Matchmaking then tries to pair you with opponents in a similar rating band, so games stay competitive. Ratings are calculated on our servers, not in your browser, to keep them fair.

What are country leagues?

You can represent your country, contribute to its team standings, and take part in cross-country battles and challenges. It’s an optional layer on top of normal play — see the league page for how it works.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. Golipop runs in any modern mobile browser — no app to install. Tap the highlighted dots to move; the board is designed to work on small screens.

Can I play against a specific friend?

Yes. Create a public room and share it, or add a friend by their username from your profile and start a match together.

How do I actually win?

Score more goals than your opponent, and avoid getting trapped with no legal move. The strategy & tips guide explains the habits that win games — chiefly reading bounces and keeping your own half clean.

I found a bug or have feedback — where do I send it?

We’d genuinely like to hear it. Email [email protected] and we’ll take a look.
